About Us

Butler Piano Instruction offers private, one-on-one piano lessons from a welcoming home studio in Tonawanda, New York, as well as live online lessons for students anywhere in the world. Since 1983, David Butler has been helping students of all ages and skill levels develop confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music.

Whether you are a young beginner, an adult returning to the piano, a vocalist seeking accompaniment skills, or an advanced student preparing for auditions and collegiate music programs, lessons are tailored to your individual goals and interests. Students receive instruction in classical piano, blues, rock, pop, contemporary styles, improvisation, composition, music theory, ear training, and sight-reading.

David's teaching philosophy, "Music for Life," reflects his belief that music education should provide both strong technical foundations and lasting enjoyment. Over more than four decades of teaching, he has helped students achieve a wide range of musical goals—from learning to play for personal enjoyment to pursuing professional careers in music.

Many former students have gone on to study music at colleges and conservatories and build successful careers as performers, composers, recording artists, and educators. Among them is Grammy Award-winning pianist and composerJJ Wright, whose album O Emmanuel reached #1 on the Billboard Classical Charts. Other former students have earned national recognition, including vocalist Cami Clune, a standout performer on NBC's The Voice, and members of the electronic duo Bottler, whose recordings have been released internationally through InFiné Records of Paris, France.

Lessons are conducted in a supportive, encouraging environment where students are challenged to grow while developing the skills and confidence needed to become independent musicians. Whether your goal is to perform professionally, prepare for college study, or simply enjoy making music, Butler Piano Instruction is committed to helping you succeed.

Convenient in-person lessons are available in Tonawanda, NY, with flexible online options for students throughout the United States and around the world.
